On 29 October 2025, the Experimental Theatre of Tirana hosted “Voices in Media”, a unique storytelling event organised by Albanian Women in Audiovisual (AWA) as part of the “Breaking the Moulds – Shaping the Future” project, funded by the European Union.
Bringing together some of Albania’s most respected women journalists, the event celebrated the power of journalism, storytelling, and women’s leadership in shaping public debate. Moderated by journalist Valbona Sulçe, the evening featured inspiring personal reflections from Anila Hoxha, Elsa Demo, Elira Kadriu, Sonila Agostini, Emi Kalaja, Aulona Musta, Juljana (Juli) Ristani, Flutura Kusari, and Lindita Çela.
Through personal stories and professional experiences, the speakers reflected on the responsibilities of journalism, the importance of integrity, and the challenges of reporting in an increasingly complex media environment. They shared how years of covering politics, justice, culture, social issues, and human rights have shaped not only their careers but also the way the Albanian public understands current events.
A recurring theme throughout the evening was the role of women journalists in challenging stereotypes, amplifying underrepresented voices, and ensuring that journalism remains rooted in accuracy, ethics, and public interest. The speakers also reflected on the barriers women continue to face in the profession, including gender stereotypes, workplace pressures, and online harassment, while highlighting the resilience and determination required to continue reporting independently.
The event illustrated the diversity of Albanian journalism by bringing together professionals from different generations, backgrounds, and editorial approaches. From investigative reporting and political analysis to cultural journalism and human-interest storytelling, each participant demonstrated how different perspectives enrich the media landscape and contribute to a more informed society.
More than a celebration of distinguished careers, Voices in Media created a space for dialogue between journalists, media professionals, students, and the wider public. It encouraged participants to reflect on the importance of trustworthy journalism, media literacy, and the role of women in shaping public narratives.
Organised within the framework of the “Breaking the Moulds – Shaping the Future” project, the event reaffirmed AWA’s commitment to promoting gender equality in the media and creating platforms where women journalists can share their experiences, inspire future generations, and strengthen a more inclusive and ethical media environment in Albania.
