Press release.

Tirana, December 20, 2022

“A Round Table was held on February 22, 2023, as part of the project “Harmonization of national legislation related to sexism in audiovisual media with the EU acquis.” Reactor – Research in Action and their partners are supporting this project through the action “Advancing gender equality through the European Integration Process,” which is funded by the European Union and Sweden.

The project aims to raise awareness about the importance of preventing and combating gender inequality and sexism in the audiovisual media by strengthening civil society’s capacities for the recognition of EU law related to sexism in the media and facilitating advocacy on this issue with the Assembly, as the main authority responsible for legislative harmonization.

Representatives from the Albanian Parliament, People’s Advocate, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, AMA, National Accounting Council, Albanian Radio Television, the Council of Europe, UN Women, AWEN, NED, Helvetas, Gender Alliance for Development Center, Equality in Decision Making, Vatra Center, Sci-Dev, Dutch Embassy, and others participated in the panel.

The study “Sexism in the audiovisual media – Analysis of local legislation and the obligations to align legislation with European standards” authored by Prof. Assoc. Eralda Methasani was well received, and real commitments were made to move the process forward.

We thank everyone for their valuable contributions, especially their support for AWA’s initiative to combat sexism in the media and society through all means and methods.”

Women keep their promises!
